Oltre a ospitare gli studenti, il college organizza la loro vita sociale e l'attività sportiva e gestisce la parte dell'insegnamento nota come supervision system, consistente in incontri in genere settimanali di un piccolo gruppo di studenti con un tutor che tiene loro lezioni informali, li guida nella ricerca e giudica i loro elaborati. L'università si occupa invece del coordinamento dei corsi, delle lezioni aperte a tutti gli studenti, del conferimento delle lauree e della gestione delle strutture principali, ad esempio le biblioteche principali, i teatri e i musei.
